the ArtistJackson Walden (born October 3, 1980) is the middle name of an American artist, doctor, and entrepreneur. He founded Popduds in the spring of 2006 in Charleston, South Carolina. Growing up, Jackson Walden was an early adopter of graphic editing software like Corel Draw and Adobe Photoshop. At 17, he was one of 25 national recipients of a computer arts scholarship from the Imation Computer Corporation. Walden frequently uses photographs as source material for his graphic design and at 18 he was selected as an international finalist in the 62nd Annual Kodak International Newspaper Snapshot Awards. His work has been displayed in the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, MN and the National Geographic Museum in Washington, DC. Community outreach has also been a passion of Jackson Walden. While attending Johns Hopkins University, Walden served as the Student Director of the JHU Tutorial Project which paired undergraduate volunteers with Baltimore City elementary students for after school tutoring. His experience inspired Walden to incorporate philanthropy into his company. Each year, five charities are selected to receive a portion of the profits. In college, Jackson Walden pursued his passion for music and the brain while completing his BA and MS in Neuroscience. His masters research investigated how the human brain processes the syntax of music using subdural electrode recordings. The research project was conducted in collaboration with the Peabody Conservatory of Music and the Johns Hopkins Hospital Department of Neurosurgery. Aspects of his work have been published in the British medical journal Brain. Jackson Walden recently received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Walden is currently a resident at a hospital in Brooklyn, NY. |
